S6 MARINE rebrands to S6 MULTIHULLS… the story so far!
What’s all the fuss about having two (or three) hulls? Surely ONE is more than enough? Well Matt & Lizzie would have been the first to agree, life long Monohull sailors, Matt has sailed and raced all sorts, from small performance dinghies like the International 14 right up to the larger cruiser Racer Yachts. The astute among you will not have failed to notice that Matt built his entire career in the marine industry racing monohull yachts all over the globe! In fact Matt himself would have rolled eyes and shaken his head if you mentioned a catamaran…
But time moves on fast, as does technology.. it wasn’t long ago that phones had wires and music came on silver discs in plastic boxes that you had to go a to a shop to acquire! Our beloved sport, passion, pastime, lifestyle, obsession of sailing and boating has moved on too, we no longer have to drag around tons of lead hanging low under the boat just to keep it upright, we don’t have to go down into the depths of the hull to cook, relax, sleep. Boating has evolved and now TWO (or sometimes three) is the magic number for hulls just as it is for wheels on a bicycle (or tricycle).
Stability comes naturally not from huge amounts of extra lead, speed comes with ease from reducing the wetted surface and maintaining stability, comfort comes from always being flat in the water, no more spilt wine sliding off the table as an unfriendly wash goes past in the normally quiet anchorage.
Space does not just double going from one hull to two it increases exponentially. You have all the space in the hulls for cabins plus all the space in-between for Saloon, Galley, inside and outside lounging, you can use the foredeck while at sea, you can get out the breeze in the aft cockpit, you can sit at the table if you want or on a sunpad or even the flybridge, another huge area that monohulls just can’t offer. You have space to be with the whole group or have some peace alone, you don’t all have to sit around the same table all the time, everyone getting up to allow people through to go “below” as you do on a monohull! Now, we’re not dissing monohulls, they have their place just as the unicycle does but watch the market and watch the new boats being exhibited and sold. This years MIAMI boat show had in the sailing section just TWO monohull yachts… thats 2! in the entire Sailors Cove area of the show…. If thats not a sign I don’t know what is!
Matt & Lizzie fell off the monohull wagon back in 2007 when they delivered a new Lagoon 560 Catamaran across the Mediterranean from Gibraltar to Turkey with her new owner. Not intentionally but keeping busy while they waited for their new CNB 60 to be finished. It was the catalyst for what was to come and what was to define the past 10 years. No wine was spilt during this trip despite some very strong winds and some fast passage sailing, they were converted.. But committed to doing just “one more monohull”, the CNB60. It was not until 2015, 3 years after hanging up their sea boots and moving ashore that Matt sold his first Catamaran, a Lagoon 52, funnily enough he same year that Matt signed his LAST new build Monohull. A couple of years later Matt signed his first new build Sunreef, 80 sailing hull number 15 and has not looked back since continuing to work with this prestigious brand. Just last year we launched Sunreef 80 hull number 42, probably the most technologically advanced Sunreef 80 ECO built to date, THE IDLER.
In the past 6 years S6 Marine have sold only 3 used monohulls with all the rest of the sales, both new and brokerage being large luxury catamarans, mostly from Sunreef.
We are now one of the leading specialist independent multihull only sales brokerages in the UK, Europe and probably the world and it seems right now to rebrand to reflect this shift towards catamarans by re-naming ourselves S6 Multihulls. We are now focussed more than ever on delivering the best possible service to our clients choosing to become catamaran or even Trimaran owners, our experience in this space is enormous, the manufacturers we focus on are all catamaran builders and the yachts we are launching are some of the finest Catamarans the world has seen.
But are we just jumping on the Catamaran band waggon? Far from it, We have been there all along while the world wakes up to the benefits of Two hulls vs. One.. We now just want to make it absolutely clear that this is our focus, this is our speciality, this IS S6 Multihulls.
If you are dreaming about joining the catamaran world either owning a new or used cat or perhaps even chartering one to see what all the fuss is about then we are the best placed company to help and advise you. We can offer any brand but we specialise in bespoke luxury. Matt has an enormous knowledge and experience when it comes to not just advising you what brand or model to choose but to project managing your journey and the build from first contact, thru contract and construction on to launching. The same goes for brokerage, cut through the noise with Matt by your side and find the best possible solution for you and let him manage the entire transaction for you.
